Some of the most beautiful parts of Lagos can be enjoyed on foot along the cliffs. These walks are all suitable with dogs on-lead and each one gives you a different perspective of the coast. Short or long, morning or evening, here are the top routes to explore with your dog.
1. Old Town → Ponta da Piedade
- Why it’s great with dogs: Easy terrain, plenty of shady spots, benches to rest, and short enough for a relaxed walk.
- Start: Praia da Batata (Old Town)
- Finish: Lighthouse at Ponta da Piedade
- Distance & time: ~3 km / 45–60 min one way
- Route: Follow the coast past Praia dos Estudantes, Dona Ana, and Camilo. The last section is on safe wooden boardwalks with multiple viewpoints over the grottoes.

2. Ponta da Piedade → Porto de Mós
- Why it’s great with dogs: Quieter trail with wide open views and fewer crowds; good sea breeze on hot days.
- Start: Lighthouse at Ponta da Piedade
- Finish: Praia do Porto de Mós
- Distance & time: ~2.5 km / 40–50 min one way
- Route: Cliff-top path westward past Praia do Canavial, ending with a wide sandy beach at Porto de Mós.

3. Porto de Mós → Praia da Luz
- Why it’s great with dogs: A bit more of a workout, but plenty of open space and a dog-friendly promenade waiting at the end.
- Start: Praia do Porto de Mós
- Finish: Praia da Luz promenade
- Distance & time: ~3 km / 1 hr one way (moderate climb at start)
- Route: Head west over rolling cliffs with dramatic Atlantic views before descending into Luz.

4. Meia Praia (Bay Walk)
- Why it’s great with dogs: Flat and easy, with space to run and paddle. Best early morning or evening in summer heat.
- Start: Marina de Lagos (or join anywhere along the bay)
- Finish: Left end of Meia Praia (beyond the concession zones)
- Distance & time: Up to 4 km / 1–1.5 hrs one way
- Route: Walk along the dune-backed boardwalks or straight on the sand. The far left end is where dogs are welcome throughout the day.
